About me

In 1991, my friend R. Javier Ponce and I founded Teatro Supernova, a student theater company in the University of Puerto Rico’s Bayamón campus. In 2001, when I started to produce videos, I continued to use the same name, this time as a film producer. Under this name, we produced four short films and two feature films, winning various awards in different festivals. But my motivation has always been to entertain the audience.
Now I’ve taken a somewhat different creative path but with the same motivation. The truth is that producing quality films these days is very expensive, in time as well as money. Effective distribution routes for the material produced as well as the ability to recover what you invested are becoming increasingly smaller. This means that at the present time it is very difficult to undertake the production of a feature film. Several years could pass from idea to DVD. For example, CONTROL POINT took six years. And on many occasions, ideas have to be cut due to production costs.
But my artistic restlessness to tell stories, to surprise and to entertain hasn’t stopped. It’s still alive and well, with the desire to break out and show itself. Therefore, rather than let years go by with my ideas running circles locked inside my head because I don’t have either money or time, I’ve decided to give them life in an earlier stage: in writing.
That’s why I undertook the project of taking the script that I had for what was supposed to be my third feature film “With a View of the Sea” and turning it into my first novel, “Mystery by the Sea.”
I see the benefits of this change in direction being multiple and important. Among others, creative liberty is opened to its fullest. Money and technology cease to be a barrier. For example, if I want to tell a story that takes place in a spaceship, I don’t have to worry about special effects. My words, coupled with the reader’s imagination, are the special effect.
Therefore, to all those who have enjoyed my movies, I extend to you a warm invitation to read the stories that I wish to tell from here forward. I appreciate the support that you’ve always given me and I hope that you will accompany me on this new adventure.
